People Will Not Like You
The Universe has a funny way of teaching us lessons in a way that we think might be the end of us. This lesson was one such moment in my life and it is not an exaggeration to say that I do not know when I will ever be able to talk about it openly.
I don’t know what else to tell you other than people will not like you and it will have nothing to do with you. Your personality will never mesh with every person you meet. Some people will meet you and immediately decide they don’t like you. Aside from learning this lesson, you should learn how to move on from the need to change yourself so that these people will like you. I promise you, it’s not worth it.
No person is worth changing and molding yourself so that you fit into whatever narrative they have about you. In all honesty, understanding that people will not like you is actually a very freeing emotion once you can get through the initial sting. Knowing that no matter what you do, some people will simply not like you allows you to be who you truly are. You like to dance in public? Dance in public. You speak a little too loudly? As long as you’re not actually being a nuisance, speak as loudly as you want.
Do not, under any circumstance, becoming someone you do not recognize just so that others will like you. Do you like yourself? Do you recognize the person looking back at you in the mirror? Are you shrinking yourself for the benefit of others? Recognize that being yourself is the best thing you can do for yourself and the right people will find you. And at the end of the day, always know that you will always have yourself so don’t lose sight of that either.
