Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries: The Characters

I was first introduced to Miss Fisher’s in the most random way. I was browsing through Netflix and I found the show, added to my watchlist, and promptly forgot about it. I didn’t get back to it until people on my Twitter account we’re really excited about it so I decided to give it a chance. I’m so glad that I did because I needed up falling helplessly in love. I love not only the characters and the costumes but also the storyline of the show. As I’ve done with the other shows on this blog, I am going to break down certain aspects of the show in several posts. In this post specifically I will be talking about the characters that I love.

The Honorable Phryne Fisher

She’s fierce, independent, and a force to be reckoned with and that’s just a few of the reasons I love her character. From the moment she showed up on the screen, I knew that this show was going to be a wild ride. There’s just something about Miss Phryne Fisher that you can’t help but love her. Aside from being a woman who does what she wants, she’s also someone who is kind and caring. She doesn’t allow her place in the world dictate how she treats those around here, even if they aren’t at the same social standing as her. Case in point, her relationship with Dot Williams. She’s always kind to Dot and doesn’t force her viewpoints on the young girl. At the same time, she pushes Dot to be the best that can she be.

Detective Inspector Jack Robinson

Oh, Jack Robinson, I’m not sure what to do with you but love you endlessly. The chemistry between Jack and Phryne is off the charts. They have such great banter and an even better partnership. I wasn’t sure if I would like his character in the beginning. He came off very stern and uncompromising but he quickly changed my mind. Phryne is an extremely persistent woman but also someone who didn’t sit quietly in any situation. She was far too bold and witting for someone who couldn’t match her sparring and luckily, Jack does.

Dorothy “Dot” Williams

Dot is such a sweet girl. I wasn’t sure how she would fit into the show when we are first introduced to her but her character growth over the series is astounding. When we are given the opportunity to explore out world and its possibilities, we are bound to grow as people. We learn that Dot was always the strong, independent and capable girl we know by the end of the show. It was just a matter of being in a safe environment that would allow her to be who she is.

Constable Hugh Collins

Hugh is such a sweetie and a great foil for Jack. I want to talk about his relationship to Dot first, though, because they’re such a cute pair. They’re both very similar in the beginning of the show but grow as individuals and as a couple by the end of the show. Hugh is such a sweet and naive but well meaning character on this show. He’s such a great breath of fresh air because he’s not the most confident man in the beginning of the show. I loved watching the growth in his confidence under Jack and around Miss Fisher and Dot.

 Dr. Elizabeth “Mac” Macmillan

If the creators of the show want to start a spin off of a character, I’d love to have a show about Dr. Macmillan. Not only is she a doctor, but she’s also a far more masculine than many of the other characters on the show. She’s also queer (she has a relationship with a woman on the show but it’s only mentioned, not showed) which is great. The queer representation isn’t the best but I felt like it went well with the time period. In my mind, Mac is now happy and still a badass doctor.

There are so many other characters on this show but these are my favorites. Do you agree with my list? Do you have another character you’d add on this list?

It hasn’t been difficult because I don’t know what to post or I haven’t gotten the graphics made. No, it’s been difficult because I can’t get out of my own head.

I keep thinking that trying to create content isn’t the best idea for me. I keek thinking that I’m not good at this even though I’ve barely tried.

So, this post is me trying to get out of my head! It’s a commitment I’m making to myself and to you that I won’t give up trying!
