Taylor Swift-a-Thon: 1989

I do not own this image. I edited the image in Canva.
Ever since she released folklore in June, I have been on a Taylor Swift binge. While Red is my favorite album of Taylor’s, folklore has come very close to being second or even tied for first place. In honor of her eighth studio album, I decided it would be fun to finally listen to all of her discography! So today, I have her fifth album, titled 1989.

It was released on October 27, 2014!

1. “Welcome to New York”

  • I know why she had this song on here, but this is one of the weakest songs on this album.
  • “Everybody here was someone else before”
  • “It’s a new soundtrack”

2. “Blank Space”

  • This song and music video are beyond iconic and even I will admit that
  • “You look like my next mistake”
  • “I can make the bad guys good for a weekend”
  • “rose garden filled with thorns”
    • folklore has “the lakes”
    • reputation has various lyrics dealing with roses
  • “heaven sin”
    • Lover has religious imagery on “False God”
    • reputation has mentions of God on “Don’t Blame Me”

3. “Style”

  • “No headlights”
    • This album also has “I Wish You Would”
  • “Wild eyes on the road”
    • Red has “All Too Well”
  • “red lip classic”
    • Red has “The Moment I Knew” and various other moments throughout her discography

4. “Out of the Woods”

  • “The rest of the world was black and white / but we were in screaming color”
  • “But the monsters turned out to be just trees “

5. “All You Had to Do Was Stay”

  • In terms of the two track 5 songs that we’ve had, this song is no where near the emotional moment that “All Too Well” is.
  • “People like you always want back / the love they gave away”
  • “I’ve been picking up piecers / of the mess you made”
    • “Dancing With Our Hands Tied”–“I’m a mess but I’m the mess that you wanted”
    • “Stay Stay Stay”
    • “New Year’s Day”
    • “The Archer”

6. “Shake It Off”

  • This song gets boring and annoying after a while (especially with how much a radio play it had) but the first time I head it, I was excited about it.
  • “I’m dancing on my own”
    • “Welcome to New York”
    • “New Romantics”
    • “Out of the Woods”

7. “I Wish You Would”

  • 2am
  • Reminiscent of “I Almost Do”
  • “Headlights”
  • “Wish I never hung up the phone like I did”
    • “The Moment I Knew”

8. “Bad Blood”

  • “Did you have to ruin what was shiny”
  • “Bandaids don’t fix bullet holes”
  • “If you live like that, you live with ghosts / If you love like that, blood runs cold”
    • Why am I getting emotional over “invisible string” with “Bad was the blood of the song in the cab”

9. “Wildest Dreams”

  • “Away from the crowds”
    • “I Know Places”
    • “Wonderland”
  • “red lips”
  • “He’s so bad, but he does it so well”
    • “I Knew You Were Trouble”
    • “Superman”
  • “Someday when you leave me, I’d bet these / memories / follow you around”

10. “How You Get the Girl”

  • “Stand there like a ghost”
    • “The Archer”
    • “Ours”
  • “I want you for worse or for better”
    • “Lover” from Lover

11. “This Love”

  • This is probably one of the weakest songs on the album.
  • “In silent screams and wildest dreams”
    • “Clean”
    • “Wildest Dreams”
  • “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”

12. “I Know Places”

  • “I can hear them whisper as we pass by”
  • “They are the hunters”
    • “The Archer”
    • “the lakes”
  • One of my favorites on this album
  • “Loose lips sink ships all the damn time”
  • “They take their shots, but we’re bullet proof”

13. “Clean”

  • This is one of my favorites on this entire album.
  • “The drought was the very worst / when the flowers that we’d grown together / died of thirst”
    • “Back to December”
    • “Call It What You Want”
  • “When I was drowning, that’s when I could finally breathe”
  • “Hung my head as I lost the war / and the sky turned black like a perfect storm”
    • “Call It What You Want”

14. “Wonderland” (Deluxe edition bonus track)

  • “Flashing lights, and we / took a wrong turn”
  • “All alone, or so it seemed / But there were strangers watching”
  • “You searched the world for something else / To make you feel like what we had”
  • “Green eyes”
    • “I Know Places”

15. “You Are in Love” (Deluxe edition bonus track)

  • “You keep his shirt, he keeps his word”
    • “All Too Well”
  • “And for once, you let go / of your fears and your ghosts”
    • “Fearless”
  • “You two are dancing in a snow globe”
    • This line is what inspired the “Lover” music video
  • “And you understand now / Why they lost their minds and fought the wars / and why I’ve spent my whole life trying to put it / into words”

16. “New Romantics” (Deluxe edition bonus track)

  • One of the most underrated songs on this entire album and I really wish it hadn’t been a bonus track.
  • “We wait for trains that just aren’t coming”
    • This reminds of me the prologue for Red
  • “We show off our different scarlet letters”
    • “Love Story”
  • “Honey, life is just a classroom”
  • “I could build a castle / out of all the bricks they threw at me”
  • “The best people in life are free”
Surprisingly, I found that I really loved this album this time around. I actually think this is going to be my third most likely album after this listen. Not only does this album have songs that are perfect to dance to, there are songs that are a lot deeper. As y’all can tell, I love a slow, ballad type music from Swift. “Clean” is still one of my favorite’s on this album. I also think this one–like Red–has some of the strongest bonus tracks.

They’ve helped me calm myself down during anxious moments and moments of low self esteem. I have definitely noticed a shift in my self image by repeating affirmations often.

That’s why I’ve decided that every month I’ll share affirmations I’m trying to embody!

It hasn’t been difficult because I don’t know what to post or I haven’t gotten the graphics made. No, it’s been difficult because I can’t get out of my own head.

I keep thinking that trying to create content isn’t the best idea for me. I keek thinking that I’m not good at this even though I’ve barely tried.

So, this post is me trying to get out of my head! It’s a commitment I’m making to myself and to you that I won’t give up trying!
